About MNOAT

The Merchant Navy Officers' Association of Tanzania (MNOAT) was established in 1986 at Dar es Salaam. The aim amongst others was to create a body to afford a forum to enhance the paramount question of safety of lives and property at sea; to develop the profession and instil professionalism to all certificated marine officers; to assist the government and other interested parties on issues pertinent to maritime affairs; and assist in social, economic and cultural development of our country on all matters within our expertise, especially those connected to maritime affairs.

MNOAT was formed by the initiatives of few Merchant Officers — both deck officers and engineers — who foresaw the need to have our own association where officers can have a bridge to raise their voices concerning professional issues, such as ethics, safety of life at sea, piracy, pollution, and education to the users of ships and marine craft. After the association was duly registered, record shows that it performed well, with meetings conducted regularly in accordance with the constitution.
